About Spring, the seasons, certainty and uncertainty

Interesting how days and weeks and months go by, and then (drumbeat) there’s a new season! Unless living really close to the equator, the changes are visible, but maybe too subtle to notice. Is it possible to be certain and sure that the seasons will change as we expect? What about the uncertainty and doubt of unexpected seasonal change (drought, floods, lightning, rising waters)?

Paying attention to what’s around us is key to many questions, and each moment is here for…a moment! Then it’s gone forever.

Living in the moment particularly applies to buds on trees. They can change in an instant with winds, sun, age, and more. Every spring I make a pilgrimage to a Yulan magnolia tree, hoping to catch it in full bloom. I sit on the bench underneath and use most of my senses: seeing, smelling, touching, hearing (the leaves rustling in a breeze), and knowing for a brief moment there is the certainty that it has bloomed once more since 1910. Wonderful!
